You discover the qualities that naturally fit you: things that come effortlessly and energize you! Even under pressure, when you might be tired or stressed, these qualities remain visible and tangible to both yourself and those around you. You don’t have to think about it; you just do it. In the conversations I have daily with driven professionals about their development, I notice that these are precisely the qualities that are often seen as ‘normal’ by them, precisely because they are so natural. Becoming aware of these can yield so much: energy, enjoyment, a desire to live and develop in this area!
You probably also recognize that you can be very good at something, but… does it really energize you? Are these the things you want to be involved with in 5 years? Or are there tasks that you continually postpone? These examples characterize performance strength: qualities that don’t naturally fit you but that you have learned over your life/career. These are qualities that require effort to utilize, and they give you less energy than those that are naturally yours. It’s important to recognize if you want to maintain a balance between work and enjoying life!
Last but not least: your development potential! These are qualities that naturally fit you well and can therefore be developed quickly and easily. The reason these qualities have not yet been developed could be because they were not encouraged at home or during your education/career. Or, as we often say, because ‘something is covering them up’: performance strength. You then expend energy on qualities that are less natural to you and from which you do not gain energy. This focus can overshadow your true potential and inhibit the development of your inherent strengths. It’s such a waste, isn’t it? That’s exactly what we think!
